Kicking off my series of Finnish mythology illustrations!
This is Mielikki, the Goddess of the Forests.
She was thought to have been the mother of bears, the most magical and powerful creatures in nature. When one would enter a forest, they would pray for her for protection and leave little sacrificial offerings of meat and berries to appease her, for what they were about the take from her domain, by way of foraging or hunting.
Mielikki was also thought to be a powerful healer.
I painted this piece with watercolors and used ink pens for detail work.
This is a gallery-quality giclée art print on 100% cotton rag archival paper, printed with archival inks. Each art print is listed by sheet size and features a minimum one-inch border.
