Profile for Katelyn Solbakk

I like to imagine how microscopic creatures might look if we could see them in their natural habitats, and view them as the amazing wildlife that they are. The microscopic world is truly fantastic and offers a lot of inspiration for fantasy themes, which you will see in some of my more playful work like the hookah-smoking tardigrade inspired by the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. I hope my art can help bring us a little bit closer to the mysterious world of microbiology that is the foundation for all our precious ecosystems.

I draw using simple round brushes in Adobe Photoshop on a Wacom Cintiq. The technique I use could be described as a mix of drawing and painting using a combination of paint, pastels, and pencils, but with magical ink that comes in unlimited colours and never runs out! I also occasionally work with traditional materials.

By purchasing my art you give me a huge boost of motivation and encouragement, and the ability to continue dedicating my time to this work. For that I am endlessly grateful.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
