Profile for Jaylyn Lassiter

Before falling in love with painting, Jaylyn Lassiter fell in love with her own identity. Jaylyn works are reflections of her life experiences as a black woman dealing with natural hair prejudice. As she began to explore the world of art, she found her passion representing the beauty in African and African American culture through hairstyles. Her paintings of hair convey a message of embracing versatility, identity, personality, and spiritual belief. While pursuing a career as an art professor at Savannah College of Art and Design, she continues to build her works that spread the message of embracing oneself and personal identity.
