Every year in Galve, Sweden, a giant yule goat made of straw is built. Every year, arsonitsts attempt to burn the goat down. Despite fire proofing, guards, cameras and even dogs, more years than not, the arsonists win.
The burning of the Galve goat has now become a worldwide trend, with people far flung from Sweden watching and rooting for either the authorities or the arsonists. In 2021, the burning of the goat was widely considered good luck.
This illustration commemorates the joyous event of the fire goat being freed from his straw prison to give us a bountiful new year.
