‘Eyes are the window to the soul. That’s the thought I had as I observed the farmer sitting in
front of me one afternoon in the fields of Kondakamarla in Andhra Pradesh. I saw worry,
disappointment, and weariness etched on his face. But his eyes still shone with unbridled
curiosity and an intense hope for the future. I wanted to immortalise the powerful and
contrasting emotions that the farmer was going through. He showed me his soul through his
eyes.
“I was born into a farmer’s family in Kondakomarla, in Andhra Pradesh, a small village that
oozes bucolic charm. I grew up with the smells of my mother’s cooking wafting through the
house at all times. She continues to be a marvellous cook even today and her dishes are
always infused with that signature ingredient - love. My father was my biggest mentor and
inspiration, always pushing me to achieve my dreams.
