Since I was a little girl I've been very attached to the sea.
I was born in Cartagena, a mediterranean city in the south-east shore of Spain where i grew up spending my time on the beach playing with sea horses and shells. My dad was a member of the military navy, so for me it was pretty easy to fell in love with everything related to the ocean, mermaids and mythology.
As I grew up, I found on the LGTBQI+ collective my other home, a place where i was accepted and not being judged for who i was or what i liked. I discovered a new world of artists that were capable of transforming and expressing themselves without shame or guilt, where everything was allowed.
A new world of love and light opened in front of my eyes, with no barriers, no gender roles, where BEING YOURSELF was not only allowed, but celebrated.
Simultaneously, I started paying more attention to artists like Bowie, Divine, Elvira, RuPaul, John Waters... and movies like Paris is Burning, Rocky horror picture show and Priscilla became referents for my pre-adolescent mind.
#Themermaidsproject is a work in progress that was born from all this referents and thanks to the work and collaboration of amazing international drag artists.
This is my way of paying tribute to the community I am a part of, celebrating drag culture, diversity and freedom.
