I recently started using square brushes to paint with and began experimenting with my go-to subject, faces. I really like the overall vertical direction of the brushstrokes and it really helped me with my use of colour, overall mark-making and control.
This painting came out particularly well and is deliciously dark and spacey. Can't go wrong with big blocks of red!
Painter/Illustrator from Sheffield. Primarily use acrylic ink but also graphite occasionally. I like to use Science/Science fiction as a basis for conceptualising imagery. The wonder and awe I feel when I think about the vastness of space is the same feeling I try and create with my work. Like the universe, I want my work to be beautiful but also dark, with an under-lying sense of dread and nothingness.
