This piece is part of my 'Hollow' series. Through much experimentation with masking fluid I have been able to create some dynamic effects. In particular this 3-D effect that is achieved through a process of layering on the masking fluid at different stages.
I find the detail very eye-catching and the sharpness of the peeled off masking fluid very satisfying, it almost looks digital at first glance. I have always been inspired by calligraphy and this process allows me to combine the spontaneity of a brushstroke with a high level of controlled realistic painting.
Painter/Illustrator from Sheffield. Primarily use acrylic ink but also graphite occasionally. I like to use Science/Science fiction as a basis for conceptualising imagery. The wonder and awe I feel when I think about the vastness of space is the same feeling I try and create with my work. Like the universe, I want my work to be beautiful but also dark, with an under-lying sense of dread and nothingness.
This is a gallery-quality giclée art print on 100% cotton rag archival paper, printed with archival inks. Each art print is listed by sheet size and features a minimum one-inch border.
