I got fascinated by the idea of mermaids dissolving into coral and seashells when they die. returning to nature. Also a bit of inspiration with the original “little mermaid” story.
In the original story the mermaid would turn into sea foam if she failed to have her feelings returned by the prince. The prince falls in love with someone else and so her sisters beg the seawitch to give their sister an other change. In exchange for their hair they are given a knife which the little mermaid must use to kill the prince so she wouldn’t turn into sea foam. The little mermaid can’t bring herself to kill the prince and jumps of the ship into to sea where her body dissolves. Even as a child I was fascinated with this story.
