This was drawn to celebrate the birth of the first cloned Przewalski's horse (also known as the Takhi or Mongolian wild horse) in August 2020.
The colt, named Kurt, comes from cells of a genetically important stallion that have been cryopreserved at San Diego Zoo Global’s Frozen Zoo since 1980. If all goes well, Kurt will help reintroduce some genetic diversity to the conservation breeding program.
