The Leopard comes in five subspecies that live across the continents of Africa and Asia. Easily recognizable due to their distinctive open rosette pattern (though occasionally misidentified as a Jaguar, their Americas living cousin), they have been a popular animal throughout their history. Leopards are considered a vulnerable species with their primary threats including by habitat loss, human conflict as their natural prey numbers dwindle causing them to seek out livestock to eat, as well as trophy hunting and poaching
Samantha Mash grew up in the dry marsh area of Palo Alto, California. After graduating high school she headed north to forested Portland, Oregon where she has resided ever since. Samantha currently works as a freelance illustrator.
Samantha is interested in the place of iconography within her illustrative work. Her art is heavily focused on symbolism and the human form, which she uses to explore concepts of vulnerability, identity, anxiety, repression, and freedom.
