Firelocks, they called her, ever since she could remember. To some, it was a brief remark, a word to point out a feature distinguishing her from her peers. To others, her family, it was an expectation of who she was to become - of strength and power and passion.
To her ears, it rang foreign and distant. Instead of the greatness promised, it became a source of self-doubt and uncertainty.
It was on a particularly long and cold night that a spark between her fingers gave her a reason to begin seeing the name as her own.
