Here is my rendition of the mountain whitefish found throughout the western united states in much of the same water where I catch trout and salmon. These fish are native to these locations yet don't quite get the respect they deserve from those seeking more popular sport fish. I am guilty of this, however, have come to appreciate them as a species that indicates a healthy watershed by it's presence. A bent fly rod is fun, even if the fish on the end isn't the trout you hoped for! I learned through this painting that whitefish are much more colorful than I expected, or had ever noticed. This one includes the common and scientific name beneath the art.
