Orchid and Plum Blossom
In Chinese culture, orchid represents integrity, nobility and friendship, all of which are virtues of a perfectly cultured gentleman and scholar.
Yellow plum tree (蠟梅) blossom most vibrantly amidst the winter snow, exuding an ethereal elegance. Their fragrance pervade the air at even the coldest times of the year. Therefore, the plum blossom came to symbolize perseverance and hope, as well as beauty, and purity.
The orchid was painted using the Chinese red cinnabar ink.
