Testate amoebas are a kind of protozoa that can be very common in soil. We often see testate amoebas in forest soils along with many fungal hyphae. Amoebas move by forming “pseudopods” or false feet to push or pull themselves around.
I like to imagine how microscopic creatures might look if we could see them in their natural habitats, and view them as the amazing wildlife that they are. The microscopic world is truly fantastic and offers a lot of inspiration for fantasy themes, which you will see in some of my more playful work like the hookah-smoking tardigrade inspired by the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. I hope my art can help bring us a little bit closer to the mysterious world of microbiology that is the foundation for all our precious ecosystems.
