'Skull Bride' is my expression of what marriage means to a lot of women in my country, India, who do not have the agency to make decisions regarding this life landmark.
The bright red not only signifies the traditional 'sindoor', which is a major component of many wedding ceremonies but also the unpreparedness and alarm that a lot of these women are forced to face.
The piece consists of imagery borrowed heavily from the Bengali traditions of the country.
I'm an architect and artist from Bangalore, India.
Hope you find something here that you'd like to take home :)
