This painting has been inspired by the Himalayas and spirituality. The central figure is the portrait of a woman having on her face the sign of urna / the third eye chakra / the divine consciousness. The background is inspired by traditional paintings of Gods in Himalayas; they are always on a platform above the ground and under the heavens. The artist integrated this background into her painting because of the importance of being aware of our spiritual or heaven world as well as our material or earth world: only with awareness of both the spiritual and the material worlds we can really be aware and able to tap into this divine consciousness inside of us. The crown and the hair bun are inspired by the roofs of the temples in Himalayas. Under the roof cupola we can usually find the eyes of Buddha with a dot above the space between the eyes called URNAKOSA.
My body of work consist mostly of figurative oil paintings which are dominated by portraits of women. They are recognizable by the use of geometric shapes that construct the portrait and the background, and by bright contrasting colors.
My drawings are not realistic, rather naïve or even cartoonesque, and I use them as a platform for the painting’s theme, which come alive through the details in the painting.
