Magran is a place that doesn't exist, but every detail in the map is drawn so that it could. The map is completely hand-drawn, coloured and lettered. The map is inspired by atlases from the beginning of the 20th century.
The map is the result of a question I asked myself in 2017: how realistic and detailed is a fictional map possible to draw? The process lasted 17 months, with a lot of testing and learning, and was finished finally in 2019.
I'm a freelance cartographer and geographer from Finland. I began professional mapmaking in 2019, but I've been drawing maps my whole life. I love mapping fictional worlds in different styles, and sometimes draw maps of our real world too.
