Illustration showing the shape of the world of Middle-earth, also known as Arda. Based on descriptions in the Silmarillion and other texts by J. R. R. Tolkien, but most of all the "Ambarkanta: The Shape of the World" – a fascinating text (with several associated maps and diagrams) written by Tolkien in the 1930s and published posthumously as the fifth chapter of The Shaping of Middle-earth (volume IV of The History of Middle-earth, edited by Christopher Tolkien).
It shows the shape of the world as flat Earth, as it was before the great cataclysm in the end of the Second Age that not only led to the destruction of Númenor but utterly changed the shape of the world, making it round as we all know it.
