This painting evokes warm memories of the church in downtown Zhubei. As a child, this church was a place where we played basketball, and occasionally, we would meet a kind foreign priest. Their smiles were heartwarming, while the interior of the church always held a sense of mystery that we never ventured to explore. This building, over sixty years old, is topped with a metal roof and still stands firm today, symbolizing the continuity of faith. As early as 1955, Father Sang Langdu came from Xinpu to Zhubei to spread the gospel. The following year, Father Lang Shiming went to Spain to raise funds. Finally, under the guidance of Father Sang Langdu and the design and supervision of Brother Yarang, Zhubei Catholic Church was officially completed on September 15, 1957, and was named the "Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Zhubei."
Illustrator Max Yeh, head of Yezi Studio, is a native of Hsinchu, Taiwan. As a child, he rode her bicycle through the streets and alleys of Hsinchu, sketching, photographing, and exploring. Now, working in education, he continues to use artistic tools to document the landscape.
