Close-up of: 'Our girl at a window'
Technique: Oilpainting on woodpanel
Format: 40x50 cm.
This painting is inspired by Rembrandt’s painting: ' Young girl at the window’. A painting with a dreamy and rustic atmosphere. I took the young girl as a guideline for the composition of my painting, in which I have portrayed my daughter in a similar authentic setting.
This is one of the most challenging works I have made so far. It was a chance to work in a different style than I'm used to and, at the same time, a quest to approach Rembrandt's style. Only at my second attempt I got the feeling that I get by Rembrandt’s painting; a dreamy atmosphere.
Just because I normally like to make detailed work, it was a challenge to work more artistic with coarser brush strokes. Up close are brush keys visible, with some distance they merge.
My goal is that you as a passant are invited to look at the girl on my painting when you walk past her, while she beholds you from her window and frame. I hope her look makes you as a viewer curious to slow down and stop you briefly, to wonder for a moment about her innerthoughts.
