This was the first original black and white acrylic painting made in 2016 by Joel Witiw. The original dimensions of the work are 10"x8". The subject of this painting is an ode to the joy that a dog can bring to one's life. This has long remained a personal favourite of mine, not just because it is the first in my line of black and white pieces, but because the imagery is depicts a happiness that we all crave. It is about life.
At a distance my paintings tend to give an illusion of photorealism until they are viewed up close to see the brush strokes. The contrasting black and white gives a glowing pop to draw your eye to subjects in the painting. I feel that painting without colour lends to a certain timeless quality. It lets the viewer imagine the colours in the unique way that each of us percieves the world around us.
