Centuries ago humanfolk first landed upon these black shores amidst the ice. A whaling and mining outpost was established but was then mysteriously abandoned. She followed the wake of her predecessors, as mapped out on an ancient scroll, and refound this lost land. It was realized this here place, though frigid and brutal, was raging. Seemed the land itself were moving, growing, and morphing. The shore rumbled and fire spewed inland, glaciers washed over the land altering the molten earth into obsidian. Clearly being done with some sorta unnatural intent. And there was also a whole buttload of weird creatures too, like a bunch of different kinds. She never encountered any of 'em closer than a staring distance but she couldn't help but feel some of them looked right back.
This sojourner went home to amass an expedition party to come on back and discover what secrets the ice hides. From her scouting she gleaned that this here strange land had much to offer but wasn't gonna give it up easily. She re-equipped herself with armor fashioned after those ancients who first journeyed into the icy reaches. Atop that fur and metal she went and put on whalebone buttresses she collected on her previous exploit. A whalebone warhammer and albatross talisman was also crafted outta those cetacean bones. Nearly a full year later, bolstered with her new gear and comrades, this intrepid searcher has again set foot on the black shores of this dread isle.
