ABOUT THE PIECE \
This is my interpretation of the iconic kabuki warrior monk Benkei from "Kanjincho." With the vivid colors I'd like to pay a homage to "yakusha-e" (actor portraits) from ukiyo-e and the vivid excitement of a live performance.
JUURI is a Tokyo-born Japanese+American artist currently working from Oklahoma City.
Her colorful figure-driven work is inspired by traditional Japanese themes (bijin-ga and yakusha-e) mixed with a modern fashion photography feel.
Her murals and art can be seen all over the US as well as overseas.
