Rising suddenly like a colossal shadow from peaceful ocean waters, the umi-bōzu usher in storms and other aberrations of weather and sea. They're known to either grasp ships' hulls and pull them under the surface, or swing their dripping limbs across decks in an effort to extinguish candles and gas flames. Smaller umi-bōzu can usually be driven off with melee attacks, but if a giant one shows up, you're better off fleeing than taking it on in a fight.
