A chill breeze blows through a Miocene forest, rustling leaves that have just begun to turn yellow. Autumn in in central Europe signals a coming scarcity, and many browsers take an opportunity to harvest the last of summer's leaves before they fall.
of all these browsers, the Chalicotherium may be among the most unique. several species range from Europe to Africa, and are related to modern horses and rhinoceros. With muscular forelegs and imposing claws, these animals are formidable when threatened, but more often use these attributes to pull down branches and feed on vegetation. a similar arrangement of limbs and behavior were employed by the ground sloths of the Americas, and by modern gorillas.
