In Norse mythology Sinmara is the wife of jotunn (frost giant) Surtr, who lives in Mirkvior (“Black Forest”).
"in the Norse tradition 'crossing the Black Forest' came to signify penetrating the barriers between one world and another, especially the world of the gods and the world of fire, where Surt lives” (Francis Gentry)
And about Sinmara herself, she is the keeper of a legendary sword:
"Lævatein is there, that Lopt with runes
Once made by the doors of death;
In Lægjarn's chest by Sinmora lies it,
And nine locks fasten it firm."
