This passage from the Tao Te Ching beautifully and succinctly demonstrates the oneness of the universe AND how to experience this oneness. Emptying your mind through meditation reveals how your experience of reality emerges into and disappears from your consciousness, from nothing and back into nothing. Nothing being the intangible oneness of everything, the true nature of being, the source of reality.
Oneness is the fundamental nature of reality. Nothing is truly separate because everything exists in relation to everything, and the essence of everything is the same; we are all just various expressions of the underlying oneness, or energy as secular society likes to call it. Understanding the oneness of life is game changing. When you see past separation and understand that everything in existence is just another aspect of you, your attachments begin to fade and you see purpose and good in everything, especially the things we tend to consider “bad.” Striving to live in oneness is the core of my spirituality. Living in oneness is to live in harmony with nature, specifically your own, because harmony with others and the world can only occur once you achieve it within yourself. Finding and living in harmony with your nature is the universal goal of everyone’s life, because your nature is your purpose. Whatever your passions are, whatever makes you happiest, whatever is best for you, whatever makes you feel most at peace, whatever feels most natural to do, that is your true nature and therefore your purpose (which will consequently benefit the world). And to fulfill your purpose is to live in oneness.
