Unji Zuma has had my heart since November 28th, 2024. I can’t remember if I’ve ever been so absorbed by a character for over two months before. While I feel that my fascination has at last started to fade, I trust that I will remember how much I love him when the manga continues and when I get to see him come to life in the anime.
For this picture, I taped the paper down and did a light wash of purple and red before I started coloring him in like I normally would. I had originally thought to color this picture a lot darker, with his shirt and the background nearly black. But once I got to this point, I felt like there was no way I could risk ruining it. The end product turned out very ethereal and beautiful, and I think it suits Zuma really well. The foggy, misty quality makes it look like a dreary rainy day, and Unji Zuma is here with an umbrella, to keep us dry and safe, and a rose to uplift our spirits.
I worked on this painting from January 31st to February 4th, 2025. The tools used were Canson cold pressed watercolor paper, Copic multiliner pens, and Mei Liang watercolor paints, with a Pentel Aquash brush.
