Hyacinthos, Prince of Sparta and a wretched lover of Apollo. He was considered an extremely handsome young man and maybe the first man to be loved by another man (god). Zephyr, god of the West wind, jealous because Hyacinthos favoured Apollo caused Apollo's quoit to strike and kill the youth while they were at play. A flower sprang from the blood of the dying youth, a flower called hyacinth.
