The majestic white elephant Airavata is the ancient king of the animal kingdom. As the mount of the king of the gods and lord of thunder and lightning, he is understood to be a powerful force within the skies. Transferring water between the oceans and the clouds, he facilitates the end of droughts and flourishing of the land, thus is revered as a symbol of auspiciousness, wealth and power.
This print is part of a 12 part series called Forbidden Forest: an exhibition celebrating the art of storytelling through a series of illustrations of ancient South Asian mythological creatures.

We were always intrigued by our culture, the traditions and the many stories passed down by our elders. Humble Raja explores and shares our culture through graphic design and illustration.
