GINA is part of a serie called RETIRED IF U CAN
I thought of the time we spend chasing after community as queers because of that fear to be/end up alone and to not be lovable enough with our "grotesque" sexuality and gender.
Though that might be me projecting, I'm a Leo.
I drew these retired ladies imagining they're also retiring from that angst. In the best corner there is in the tea shop, they are taking a moment to be with themselves and celebrate that their loneliness ain't killing them no more.
I. Milan Cail grew up in the tiniest village in France. They studied art history and worked as an academic in Montreal until recently. They published a number of articles on the topic of queerness and desirability, the last one being “Images of Solace: Looking beyond Violence in Cassils’s Art”, Routledge Editions. They are now putting to use all this time looking at images and obssessively collecting them to represent complex queer emotional styles as a way of self-therapy and expression. They currently live in Barcelona.
