Rhinos carry a weathered, wisdom-laden aura about them, covered in leathery wrinkles that are often packed with dust and mud. They seem as if they've risen from the dirt themselves, extensions of the earth to roam and watch.
Most species of rhinocerous are incredibly endangered, including the Northern White Rhino which only has 2 animals left, all in captivity and all-female.
Using a build-up of charcoal and chalk pastel, then over-painting with oil paint, this portrait seeks to capture the texture of the rhino in earth tones and low movements.
