Rhinos carry a weathered, wisdom-laden feeling with them, covered in leathery wrinkles that are often packed with dust and mud. They seem as if they've risen from the dirt themselves, extensions of the earth to roam and watch.
Most species of Rhino are incredibly endangered, including the Northern White Rhino which only has 3 animals left, all in captivity.
Using a build up of charcoal and chalk pastel, then over painted with oil paint, this portrait seeks to capture the texture of the rhino in earth tones and low movements.
