“To the boy who sought freedom... goodbye”
When Attack on Titan ended, I was at a loss for words to describe what it had represented for myself and countless others. My friends knew the day of, before or after the 9th of each month was one where I required about an hour to properly read and process everything that’d transpired in those 40+ pages. On April 9, I read Hajime Isayama’s masterpiece for the final time, and I’m both thrilled and in mourning:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thrilled because I was fortunate enough to follow a generation-defining story, and I mourn because it ended. If there is one thing Isayama achieved masterfully, was wrapping up an iconic saga in the right amount of chapters while keeping us on our toes until the end.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
The idea of freedom, represented in the vastness of the ocean and the flight of birds, was omnipresent in the whole show. However, I’ve depicted them after the time skip, as a representation of what I would envision as the last genuine moment of peace and joy, in the midst of chaos and pain, they enjoyed. To Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi and everyone else from this world: thank you for breathing life into one of the most impactful stories ever told.
