I met this man in Varanasi, India- one of the oldest cities in the world. It's steeped in ancient tradition, and is overwhelmed by grime and decay. He was cracking pieces of coal with a small hammer on the side of a bustling street, and seemed to embody the spirit of the place. Badly weathered and impossibly resilient.
Erik Maniscalco is an American visual artist, born and raised in the Hudson Valley region of New York. He earned his BFA from The School of Visual Arts in New York City, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
