A piece on the endlessly inspiring music of the Killers – battle born and Vegas-raised.
This is jam-packed with imagery from the quartet’s first four lightning-infused, drastically different style albums. But one constant is Brandon Flowers’ dreamy and earnest lyrics of love and loss against a backdrop of cacti-filled gambling halls in outerspace. The heart of a girl confessing her dreams to the stars; the despair of a traveler longing for his partner beside him; and the temporary nature of everything we experience as flesh and bone – no one does modern Americana rock like the Killers, and I wanted to pay tribute to that.
