Black gold is a short simple story of how a girl (the model) is so obsessed over her lover that she immortalises him and traps him in her own ways. Black signifies the unhealthy obsession that consumes us and that same obsession with a lover is so strong that it turns their existence into gold. Thus, the title.
This photoshoot with a combined effort between me and Mato. Mato settled her wardrobe and made the golden heart, she also provided the photo frame and skeleton. I was in charge of creating the set up and providing the props as well. The coffin was actually something we made together a few months prior to this shoot. We started this shoot using artificial lighting, but as the sun started to set, beautiful golden rays lit up the set. That's when I decided to drop my flashes and shoot with only natural lighting and those shots ended up becoming one of my favourites!

Emily is a photographer based in Singapore who specialises in conceptual portrait photography. Emily developed a passion in photography when she discovered that she was able to visually capture emotions and stories that are too difficult to be expressed in words.
She spent most of her childhood drawing illustrations that portray her fondness for dark fairy tales, surrealism and fashion. After spending a decade as a hobbyist cosplayer where she practised most of her designing and costuming skills, Emily now incorporates these skills into her photography to bring immersive and fantastical concepts of her vivid imagination to life.
