I painted this piece during a time when I started to think on my past relationships, abuse, and the abuse women have had to deal with. I was tired of being quieted by people trying to protect an abuser's image. Some people completely disregard us. We have to be lying. We're expected to sit there in our silence. We're made to feel like we are less than, and I wanted to try to embody the kind of pain I felt at the time.
