𝗪𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞?
Taking the Queen Idia mask for example; they were produced specifically for the use of the Oba during the sixteenth century. Three of the other masks of this type are in public collections in the UK and the USA. They are recorded as being found in a cache in the bedchamber of the Oba in Benin City and were looted during the British expedition of 1897.
Some people are unaware of this. In a way they are 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝. They are quite unconscious of the rich heritage of their past.
Others could 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬. They are not unconscious in the sense of being deceived. They choose not to care for where they come from.
Some choose to 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 themselves and others. They study to know the history they have to better understand where they're going. We shouldn’t have to travel to Western museums to see the artworks stolen from our continent.
