Dinobryon is a genus of freshwater phytoplankton that belongs to the class Chrysophyceae (golden-brown algae). Each individual cell has two unequal (heterokont) flagella and resides in a shell-like covering, called a lorica. These loricas are almost always attached to each other to form branching colonies. Dinobryon is mixotrophic, though it relies on photosynthesis for most of its nutrition.
