"I tried to hold your hands but at any moment I’ll awaken from this dream
Even if I run like crazy, I’m only standing still
Even if I fall it’s okay, run run run again
This fool-like fate curses me"
-- BTS, RUN
‘RUN’, both the music video and song, pulls many influences from surrealist philosophies and beliefs about the dream world. The lyrics echo heavily the connection Nietzsche ties between the two concepts of Eternal Recurrence and Amor Fati.
Eternal Recurrence is the concept that time is cyclical and infinite, but that there is a finite number of events that can occur for humans to repeat again and again in the same bodies, with or without reincarnation. Amor Fati, roughly love of fate, is an attitude towards life that whatever happens is necessary or even good. In there is the beauty and fleetingness of blossoming youth in which 방탄소년단’s album series has been named for, 花樣年華 – to love your fate despite infinitely reliving suffering. This work series reflect the mirage quality of dreams and the uncertainty where one life ends and another repeats.
