The Shepherd's Star comes from the surname given to the planet Venus in french "L'étoile du Berger". It's the brightest star in the sky. She was used by shepherds as a type of sign in the sky. In the morning, they would get the sheep out of the sheepfold when this star was shining and back inside when this star appeared in the night sky.
