Part of a series of 30 photos of one single leaf. Here is the artist statement from the show that debuted the series:
"The aim of this series is to encourage the viewer to consider simple things and minutiae in a different light. To that end, I sought to capture the inherent beauty of something as common as a dying leaf. The allure of the subtle shapes and textures of the subject instantly drew me in. I spent a single night documenting the leaf, allowing the light of the setting sun to influence the mood of the photos.
'Ostranenie' is a term meaning 'defamiliarizing what is known in order to know it differently or more deeply'. This exemplifies not only what I wish to accomplish with this series, but with my art as a whole. I hope to draw attention to all the beauty around us, if only we take the time to look more closely."
