At some point in everyone's life, the fact is that we all have to deal with loss. I personally do not deal with loss very well at all, and part of those that I have lost in my life is always with me no matter where I go or what I do. I lost a close friend to bulimia several years back that still sticks with me to this day. Her organs shut down in her sleep as she passed and it hits me to the point where I break down in tears if I think about it long enough and allow my mind to remember. I will never be ok with this, but I have learned how to deal with it and how to help others through the experience. This drawing is that friend as I remember her. It took me several years of trying to gather the strength to finish this piece and is probably the longest that I have ever worked on a piece ever. I finally finished it in 2014 after 86 men and women gathered strong for my Resonance book which was about supporting positive body image in remembrance of the same friend. I am fortunate enough that @jbellyburn has come into my life and become like family to me. We created a piece together that is beyond words so powerful to me to honor my friend that passed and continue to work on several themes in my Hybrid project. In addition to the pieces that we have shared so far, we are working on a special video piece for Hybrid also that captures the feeling and emotion of this memory. I lost it in tears on the day we created all of this and hugged Janelle. She said to me that vulnerability is not weakness, it is strength. I will never personally forget those words of wisdom. In remembrance of my friend that passed, it is time that I personally heal and that is why I am selling the original drawing (need to part with it to heal) which has traveled with me for a while now, and I am including this print in Hybrid for anyone that wishes to obtain a cheaper version of it to help support the project and the powerful work that we are doing by tackling these topics. If you are interested in purchasing the original piece, please e-mail me directly, or contact me via DM on Instagram. In the meantime, I would appreciate everyone's support in helping me through one of the hardest posts I have ever made if you guys could either share some of your own thoughts of what loss means to you, or if you want to support what we are doing with the project, feel free to grab a couple prints from the store here. Thank you so much to everyone for your support as always!
