“Siren’s Song” pays homage to the kelp forest’s rich, diverse ecosystem. Kelp forests grow along rocky shorelines, mostly from Baja, California to Alaska. Unfortunately, human interference, especially overfishing, has destroyed biodiversity and kelp forests can’t contend with increasing water temperatures from global warming.
I was reminded of the alluring sirens from Greek Mythology who sing sailors to their destruction, while photographing the reference images at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Hence the title, “Siren’s Song” is used in association with the three fish swimming in Pacific Kelp.
I am a mixed media artist who loves recreating dynamic floral and animal subjects. My work uses intense color and brush work to evoke awe and wonder of the natural world.
