Sharks have electroreceptors that allow them to sense electromagnetic fields in the ocean and temperature shifts. Sharks, although equipped with abilities that made them survivors for centuries can’t compete with modern day challenges. Habitat pollution, hunting, overfishing, and bycatch are some of the contributing factors to endangering these ancient and complex animals. All the shark species depicted in “Leviathans Rising” are endangered: Ganges Shark, Hammerhead Shark , Whale Shark, Angel Shark, and Basking Shark. The illustration is an homage to the great giants of the deep and a call to reverence, respect, and protection of the ocean’s wonders.
I am a mixed media artist who loves recreating dynamic floral and animal subjects. My work uses intense color and brush work to evoke awe and wonder of the natural world.
