Thé “Fatima Hand” symbol or “Hamsa” is a mystical oriental hand image that has been used since the 6th century or even earlier. It is believed to bring good luck, good health and protection from evil forces. The painting belongs to the artist’s “Gargoulette-Series” which carries the notion that the female body often looks like one of these ancient oriental vases. The vegetation around the veiled lady represent life and growth while the veil itself separates reality and the unknown world of fantasy and imagination which might hold either the good or the bad.
The original "Fatima's Hand" is painted with pen and ink on paper [21 x 28 cm] in the typical surreal pointillism style of the artist. This printed version is slightly cropped.
