This print is of an original oil painting by Anna Marie Church. "Lac de Taney" is based on a photo taken from the artist at the lake in Switzerland. It features Lac de Taney in November, surrounded by snowy mountains and trees.
Anna’s sense of discovery and wonder can be seen as she experiments with new techniques and colors in her paintings. She starts nearly all her pieces by covering the whole canvas in her favorite color: cadmium red. Contemporary Midwest landscape painters started using red as an underpainting color as a twist on the classical oil underpainting practice of using burnt umber (brown). So, no matter where in the world she is, Anna always ties her paintings back to home. If you look closely at her work, you can see the cadmium red shining through.
