A commission for the National Pastime Museum, "The Merkle Boner" painting was origianally created with gouache on paper. The painting tries to map one of the most controversial baseball plays of all-time, known forever as "The Merkle Boner" or simply "Merkle's Boners". The situation and history are a little complicated to reveal in this paragraph, but the painting attempts to recreate the situation as much as possible. The painting itself took around 4 weeks hours to create. You can see a timelapse of me painting it here: https://vimeo.com/154069960 .
I'm an artist, illustrator, map-maker and educator living and working in Maine. I've created two books of illustrated maps, Plotted: A Literary Atlas, and Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies. My commercial clients include the New York Times, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, and many others, and I do a bit of gallery work as well.
